Here's looking at You

Not a great shot but I like it, probably because it is the closest I have ever gotten to an eagle.

I believe this is an immature Bald Eagle.

Happy New Year everyone.

Such powerful birds and a great pose. This looks a wee bit overexposed--you could try adding in a bit of black and reducing the exposure to make it pop more. You can also try adding some local contrast to give more detail to the feathers--try a USM of something like 10-85-0 on a separate layer (assuming you use Photoshop). That will bring out the detail--just watch the area under the eye as it may blow that out a bit.
John Eagle: Thank you. Yes I use Photoshop. I will check it out and see what happens. So when you say a separate layer for the USM you mean like a layer mask or a duplicate layer of the image or a new blank layer with USM?

Thanks

Here's looking at you from high above. They are majestic birds, the eagles. Our eagles don't go bald - fortunately smile

It is a great picture with lots of detail, except the little light washing below the eye. So I am considering Dawn's good advice - which is good, make no mistake. I prefer my bird pictures as natural as possible, therefor would do no changes to this shot if it was mine.

It is special to be close to the majestic in nature. Hope you had a few moments just to sit back and enjoy as well. All the best for 2010.
John Eagle: This guy was very accomadating. He let me get within 10-15 meters. I was in awe. I will check out Dawn's advise.

It was cold, still and dry high desert mountain fresh air - beautiful and inspiring.
