Day of the Dead San Francisco

Ceremonies held during the Aztec summer month of Miccailhuitontli were mainly focused on the celebration of the dead. Both children and dead ancestors were remembered and celebrated.

It was also during this month that the Aztecs commemorated fallen warriors. The Aztecs would bring offerings of food to altars in honor of the dead.

Ticle me pink. The 3 pictures that you have blogged this week of these masked people, are all women. In yesterday's pic even the background people seemed to be female. Is it coincidental or is it a female thing?

Another great portrait of the crazy characters.
John Eagle: Did not think about it, but now that you mention it there is an interesting contrast of a woman (feminine – symbol of creation) wearing a skull (symbol of death). I think the crowd was about 50/50 men and women.
