TtV, Saints Peter and Paul Church, San Francisco.

Inspired by "pinhole@shutterchance.com". I thought I would try some of my own "Through the Viewfinder" shots. This was shot with a SONY DSC-W100 through Javier's Canon Rebel XT viewfinder. Hence the little squares.

Fun technique. Attracts attention from other photographers who want to know what you are doing. Also creates a nice mood. I am sure I will be taking more of these. I just have to convince Javier to let me use his camera. He was a little Bah Humbug on the idea until we looked at the shots. We were both pleasantly surprised.

Nice framing, we have similar shots today
John Eagle: Similar both churches. yours does not have floating squares in the sky. smile
Unusual point of view, no sure I like it but unusual smile smile
John Eagle: Thanks. More an experiment than anything.

Okay, John, please explain to me what the point is. Why would you and Javier want to keep the squares/rectangles in? Inquiring minds and all.
John Eagle: The point was to have some fun. Something different. The squares are in his view finder I think used as reference points for image placement. Not sure if they can be removed other than Photoshop.

A rebel OK, judged by the squares. Interesting approach and you can tell Javier to clean up the view finder - there are microbes on it smile
John Eagle: Ahhhh darn you noticed. Yes the view finder is kinda, slightly dirty.
You have really obtained a peculiar result. Bravo.
John Eagle: Thanks. Something different.
It is an interesting effect, but frankly I am not sure that this does more for me than a direct view of the cathedral would.
John Eagle: Yeah, I agree. It does add a little mood with the fuzzyness and blurred edges. More of an experimental, conceptual art thing. From what I have seen, if done well, it leads to some cool photos and effects. This was an experiment and something different, fun.
