Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours/Musée Marguerit

Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel ("Our Lady of Good Help") often called the Sailors' Church is a church in the district of Old Montreal. One of the oldest churches in Montreal, it was built in 1771 over the ruins of an earlier chapel.

St. Marguerite Bourgeoys, the first teacher in the colony of Ville-Marie and the founder of the Congregation of Notre-Dame, rallied the colonists to build a chapel in 1655.

This shot was rushed. No excuses though. I wanted the chapel to be centered in the shot and not at an angle, which meant shooting from the center of the street. Well, it was evening, dark and I had to stand on the lower slope of the street. Meaning the cars coming over the hill could not see me until they had breached the hill and were right on top of me. Several times right in the middle of the timer I had to snatch the tri-pod and step aside. I tried and tried and tried until finally I got tired and gave up. Next time I will have to go late at night.

Night shos are so difficult to get and get right with enough shadow detail and without blowing out the highlighs. This is very impressive. I love this shot! Well done balancing the high conrast lighting situation.
John Eagle: Thank you.

In spite of your rush, John, I think this is a great shot! I like it just as it is. Now I want to go inside and take a look.
John Eagle: Thank you. I actually did not go in, wish I had, next trip.

Shoot and be run over - a great opportunity to put your body on the line for your hobby smile

great detail etc - it doesn't appear as rushed shot
John Eagle: Thanks. I have to watch it when I am shooting I kinda get tunnel vision and ignore my surroundings. One should always be aware and respectful of what is going on around them. Once in the SFMOMA I backed into a sculpture trying to get a shot. The sculpture wobbled. I fell, got a bump on my head and was escorted out. opps.

That's dedication! Be safe though. And, I agree with Ginnie, I hope you've some pictures of the inside.

Thank you for the information about this chapel, those little snippets are really interesting and useful, they make the image more real and 'alive'.
John Eagle: Thank you. No pics of the inside. It was to late at night to go in. Locked up as far as I could tell/see. Next trip I will make a point to go inside. I always enjoying knowing the history of a piece. That’s just me though.
