photoblog image La basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal

La basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal

Basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal in the historic district of Montreal, in Quebec, Canada. Constructed between 1824-1888. "...its ceiling is coloured deep blue and decorated with golden stars, and the rest of the sanctuary is a polychrome of blues, azures, reds, purples, silver, and gold. It is filled with hundreds of intricate wooden carvings and several religious statues. Unusual for a church, the stained glass windows along the walls of the sanctuary do not depict biblical scenes, but rather scenes from the religious history of Montreal." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre-Dame_de_Montréal_Basilica Wikipedia® Dramatic does not express this polychromatic, psychedelic experience. Though visually overwhelming the basilica is quiet, calming and meditative. If ever in Montreal it is a must see/visit.

Beautifully exposed and what a fantastic subject.
Majestic.
John Eagle: Thank you. I was not allowed to use a tripod so I balanced the camera on the shoulder of a pew.

This is a fabulous shot, John. The lighting is wonderful. One day I would like to visit this fine city that is not too far away from my home state, Michigan!
John Eagle: Thank you.

Monteal is a beautiful place to visit.
There is a lot of interesting photography on this blog. I am impressed with how you get the colors to work out in these low light situations.
John Eagle: I have been really happy with my Sony dsc-w100. The Low Light ISO, Twilight and Twilight Protrait settings are awesome and allow for shots that would be impossible without a better camera.
This is a great picture of a great church
John Eagle: Thank you.
